Are You Covered If Something Happens On Your Hot Vacation?
It's getting to be that time again, the snowbirds (not the ones from 15 Wing Moose Jaw!), are off the the southern United States and Mexico to delight in everything the warm sun has to offer in those climates, while we stay up here in snowy ol' Regina.
Here are some tips for those of you who do get to escape the -40:
1. Know how long you can legally stay in other countries. Canadians can get a 180 day tourist cards if they are visiting Mexico. However, Canadian visitors to the U.S. don’t need a special card (visa) if their stay is less than 180 days to the U.S.
2. Know the health care coverage you receive from your province. Talk to your insurance broker about what travel insurance package policy is good for you. There are some online websites that you can look up different offerings on travel insurance such as Kanetix.ca, CARP.ca and Snowbirds.org.
3. Make sure your financials are in order. Do you know where and when mortgage payments are coming out? Do you need access to a Canadian bank teller within the next two months? How will you cash checks? These are all questions that need to be answered.
4. Get a security system. The cost is well worth the piece of mind. It's too easy for burglurs these days, give them a really good reason not to make your house a statistic.
